This article pretty much sums up what has happened and why it is too late for moco to compete with Fairfax

I am glad to see the council has FINALLY gotten serious about job growth and economic expansion. But they are 10-20 years too late if they think they r going to compete with Fairfax, Arlington, and the rest of northern virginia in terms of jobs and economic growth. While they spent time bickering about growth and resting on moco's economic laurels instead of aggressively going after buisnesses, fairfax has become the economic engine in the private sector for the entire Washington metro region. I just think it's sad it takes a major recession to get the council to wise up and see that it is never simply a matter of growth or no growth and I think moco is a little too late to the race to ever catch up with northern virginia economically
